Why I do this work

I'm Lucas Bissell, a licensed life insurance agent with Family First Life, based in Gilroy, California.

Before insurance, I spent years as a supervisor at Chick-fil-A. That job taught me that people remember how you treated them far more than what you sold them. You show up, you're straight with people, and you take care of them even when it isn't convenient. I bring that same standard to every call.

I studied business at Boise State, but what brought me to this work was my dad's heart attack. He's doing really well now, but that scare showed our family how fast everything can change. One day things are normal, and the next you're asking questions you never thought about, like whether everyone would be okay if the worst happened. I got into this business soon after, because I want families to have that answer before they ever need it.

I'll tell you honestly what you need and what you don't. I'll compare options across multiple carriers to find the right fit. And if a policy isn't right for you, I'll say so. I work with clients entirely by phone across seven states, with more on the way.

Coverage I offer

Three kinds of life insurance, each built for a different need. Not sure which fits? That's what the first call is for.

Final expense

Whole life coverage sized to handle funeral costs, medical bills, and other end-of-life expenses, so your family isn't left paying them.

A good fit if
You want permanent coverage with a fixed premium, and you'd rather answer health questions than take a medical exam.
Keep in mind
Depending on your health, some plans pay a limited benefit in the first two years. I'll tell you upfront if that applies to you.

Term life

A large death benefit for a set number of years, usually 10, 20, or 30. It's the most coverage for the lowest monthly cost.

A good fit if
You're raising kids, paying off a mortgage, or want to replace your income if something happens to you.
Keep in mind
Coverage ends when the term does. Many policies can be converted to permanent coverage, and larger amounts may need a medical exam.

Indexed universal life (IUL)

Permanent coverage that builds cash value linked to a market index, with a floor that keeps your cash value from losing ground when the index drops.

A good fit if
You want lifelong coverage plus tax-deferred cash value you can borrow against later.
Keep in mind
An IUL has to be funded properly. Growth is capped, fees apply, and an underfunded policy can lapse. I'll walk you through all of it before you decide.

What to expect when we talk

No home visits and no pile of paperwork. Everything happens over the phone.

  1. We talk about your situation

I'll ask about your family, your budget, and a few health questions. It usually takes about 15 minutes.

  2. I compare your options

I check rates and coverage across multiple carriers and show you the ones that actually fit, with the numbers laid out plainly.

  3. We apply together

If you decide to move forward, I'll fill out the application with you on the call. Some plans are approved the same day. Others take a few weeks for underwriting, and I'll keep you updated.
